Challenges

Timers. Goals. Modifiers. The original.

The open-source plugin of the same name (now with over 100,000 downloads on SpigotMC) lets you build Minecraft Challenges from the ground up with custom timers, goals, and modifiers. On Coding-Area, Challenges runs as its own dedicated gamemode with a stable server and an active community. Nearly everything is configurable: how long the timer runs, what the goal is, and which modifiers make the run easier or harder. The result is a mode that plays differently every time, whether it is a relaxed solo run or an intense multi-team competition. Challenges was the first gamemode on the network and remains a cornerstone of it today.

How to play

  1. 1Join the server at: coding-area.net
  2. 2Select Challenges mode from the lobby menu
  3. 3Configure your timers, challenges and your goal
  4. 4Start solo or invite friends to your team
  5. 5Complete the goal before the timer runs out

FAQ

What are modifiers?

Modifiers are optional settings that change how the game plays, for example increased damage, no natural healing, or equipment restrictions. They can be combined freely and make every run feel unique.

How long does a typical round last?

That depends on the chosen goal and active modifiers. Simple runs can be finished in under an hour. Ambitious goals with tough modifiers can take considerably longer. That is entirely up to you.

What is a goal?

A goal is the main objective of the round, for example defeating the Ender Dragon or collecting a set number of items. It is configured before the start and determines when the round ends.

What happens when the timer runs out?

That depends on the configuration chosen. In some modes the round ends automatically when time runs out. In others the timer counts up and simply shows how long you took.

Can I use the plugin on my own server?

Yes, the Challenges plugin is open source and freely available on SpigotMC. You can find the source code on GitHub.
